Hollywood, What a Disappointment!

I'm sure most people who live in Southern California, or most specifically, in the Los Angeles area, have had to endure this. It is the part where friends or family visit from anywhere in the world, and go to places in Hollywood, like the board walk or Tinsel Town, and just go... "That's it?"

I'm not here to talk about that, but something more important. I'm talking about how racist Hollywood is, especially to my ethnicity. When I mention Chinese or Asians to friends about movies, there's only a handful of names that come to mind. Chow Yong Fat, Jackie Chan, Lucy Lou... and then what? No one else?

Let's look at the new movies coming out this next few years. Dragonball Evolution or the Last Airbender. How is it that such an Asian plot, set in an Asian background, have only one or two Asian actors while the rest are white? Or why is it that there are no other Asian actors in films that do not make them out to stereotypical Hollywood type casting Asians?

I have often wondered as I grew up, why people expect me to be good at maths, to play golf or tennis, to be good with computers, to know martial arts... or anything like that. Why? I have to lay at least part of the blame on Hollywood.

I know I will not go forward and be the person to say that Hollywood is a racist, stagnant piece of trash that should not exist and should be at the very least be cleansed and started a new in a roaring fire, but I will say that I don't like Hollywood at all, especially in these recent years. Any place that starts using a formula to make all its movies is definitely stagnant, and let's even talk of other races! Only in the recent five to ten years have African Americans had a place in Hollywood as main characters. Before this moment, most of them were what was called "Black Sidekicks."

Well, I hope Hollywood changes soon, because with the fall of the American Dollar and the rise of India and China, I expect movies from those places to start gaining fame...
